Well, Ocala - you have a new place to eat, should you or shouldn't you?

Fancy, really?
We live on the NW side of Ocala, outside of town - just a little.  But just enough that a quick bite out isn't an option.  We are surrounded by horse farms, and don't get me wrong that is one thing I love about where we live, but we just wish there was a good place to go nearby, we dare to dream.  I enjoy sitting in our sun porch, AKA the "conservatory" and occasionally hearing a horse whinny in the distance - so the trade off is worth it in the end.

So, Ocala - your new place to try is...near I-75, on HWY 27, you know the place of many former names, most recently "Swampy's", one of those buildings that has a rather quick turnover in restaurants.  The newest owner to try and make ago is Murphy's Oyster Bar.  My husband love seafood, and we have been watching for the coming soon signs to be replaced with "now open".

Fried fish, fries and hush puppies
Yesterday was their grand opening, we went their today for lunch.  My husband ordered 1/2 dozen cherry stone clams, and 1/2 dozen mussels.  He liked, them, for me - it's a texture thing, but I always try one.  The fried fish, fries was my lunch - it was okay, but not something I would order again.  I love hush puppies so my husband ordered them as his side, and I swapped him my coleslaw for some - and they were again, okay even though they were over cooked.  It was a fried food fest on my plate and I don't know what I was thinking....especially seeing that my ketchup option was not a good one.

My husband ordered crawfish, which he seemed to enjoy - it certainly was good serving size!

Crawfish
They painted the outside, and added to the patio seating, and our hopes of the interior being redone were - well - they made a few changes, but not enough.  Hopefully some one will realize that the nasty carpet must go, I mean really if you go into a building that has as much turnover as this one has - don't you want to wipe the slate clean?  We have been in our home 8 years, we believe this is the 7th different attempt at success.  I wish them luck, because it would be nice to have someplace nearby - and they have TV's, to go watch a football game is a trek from our house, this would be convenient.  The waitress was nice and friendly, which made up for a couple things.

Do I recommend the place - well - not sure, we will go again for my husbands love of seafood and the convenience.  It's worth a try, but don't expect much of the interior...I can say that they at least cleaned the hideous carpet and there seems to be one less layer of grime on the woodwork of the booths....

Changes to blogger...

Wow - I have not been a frequent blogger.  The changes made are almost too frustrating.  It just took me  a ridiculous amount of time to figure out how to change the name on my "name of the week" - which yes I know has more become "name of the...when ever Janet thinks about it".  I now understand why people are turning to Tumbler for a creative outlet!

Thanks for listening, I just needed a moment to vent!

Now, homework and football.

So, who loves a great mystery?

Especially a great British mystery, yes you guessed it, not only are we lovers of “britcoms” but seldom is there not a British mystery waiting for us in the DVR.

There are so many great ones to choose from, if you are looking for a little laughter sprinkled over your suspense then your best bets are: Father Brown, New Tricks, or Death in Paradise, and I almost forgot Pie in the Sky.

In Father Brown, and New Tricks I find several of the characters to be very endearing. With Death in Paradise I find it almost fascinating to watch characters that are so very different bond so much that it is devastating to their core when one is surprisingly killed.

There are also several “Inspectors” (Lewis, Morse, Linley, and George Gently) who unweave the baskets that hold the killers secrets.

Agatha Christie is well known for her mysteries, one we are very fond of watching is Poirot.  David Sauchet is outstanding in his portrayal of the main character.

When watching Midsommer Murders, Inspector Barnaby there is thoughtful and humorous, yet seriousness to his character. You meet his wife and daughter, a nice touch to see different aspects of the characters life, personal and professional.

Also worth watching is Zen, to me this seemed a little more tense, sadly there was only one season.

Murdoch Mysteries is set in the 1890's and you will be drawn in by the characters.

If you haven’t discovered at least one of the shows, do look for them, we are fortunate to catch them on our local PBS stations.  Some are also be available on Amazon.

Not sure what made me look back at my blog, I knew it had been quite awhile since I posted anything but it was much longer than I had realized.  I also took a moment to explore by clicking the “next” to see what seemed to be new in the world of blogs.  I felt better about my blog neglect when I saw I was far from the only one who dropped the blog ball.
I am resolving to tend to many things I have neglected....so here we go with my first blog post in...well here we go! :) it's not much but it is a start!

It seems one of the most popular blog posts I have had was about beards – go figure it is amazing how much attention beards draw.  Even in the exploding world or reality TV beards are popular, “Duck Dynasty”, and one of the new contestants on “Big Brother” sports a beard worth blogging about…

Wonder what it is about beards that we all seem to find so fascinating…
People even style their beards quite creatively…
braided...really?
hm...would it hold a can of beer?

I envision Christmas ornaments hanging from the ends...
